A supportive and inclusive school in Reading is seeking a Mental Health Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in psychology, mental health, education, youth work, or care to gain valuable experience within a specialist school environment.

As a Mental Health Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may experience anxiety, low confidence, emotional difficulties, or challenges with social interaction. You will help pupils feel safe and supported while encouraging them to engage positively with their education.

As a Mental Health Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils
  • Supporting children and young people with emotional and mental health needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Helping pupils develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
  • Supporting positive behaviour and engagement with learning
  • Creating a calm, safe, and nurturing environment

  • Following individual support plans and agreed strategies

The ideal Mental Health Assistant will have experience working with children or young people and a genuine interest in mental health and wellbeing. Experience within education, care, psychology, youth work, or support work would be beneficial.

This Mental Health Assistant position would also suit graduates looking to develop experience before pursuing a career in psychology, education, counselling, mental health, or SEN.
