Job description

Full-Time | ASAP Start | £95-£105 per day | Didcot

Are you a Psychology, Counselling, Education or Criminology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience supporting children's emotional wellbeing?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Didcot is seeking a compassionate Mental Health Assistant to join its specialist support team, working with pupils with a range of SEN and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a great opportunity for a Mental Health Assistant to build practical experience in education while working alongside experienced teachers, SEN professionals and specialist support staff.

As a Mental Health Assistant, you'll support primary-aged pupils who may experience:

  • Autism and ADHD
  • Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties
  • Trauma-related behaviours
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Barriers to learning and social development

Your role will focus on helping pupils understand their emotions, develop confidence, build positive relationships and engage more successfully with learning.

  • Role: Mental Health Assistant
  • Location: Didcot
  • Pay: £95-£105 per day
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
  • Start: ASAP
  • Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
  • Ideal for: Psychology, Counselling, Education and Criminology graduates, alongside individuals passionate about children's emotional wellbeing.

As a Mental Health Assistant, you'll gain valuable exposure to supportive, therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches within a school environment.

Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll develop a stronger understanding of how emotional wellbeing can influence behaviour, relationships and learning, while building skills that can support your future career.

With training, guidance and mentorship available, this role provides an excellent foundation for a Mental Health Assistant interested in progressing into psychology, therapy, teaching, youth work or social care.

Every day offers new opportunities to learn, develop professionally and make a meaningful difference to pupils in Didcot.

If you're an enthusiastic Mental Health Assistant ready to gain valuable experience supporting children and young people, we'd love to hear from you.
