The main focus of the role will be the accurate and timely management of patient referrals, including ERS referrals and related correspondence.
Duties will include responding to patient queries, preparing insurance reports, updating patient records on EMIS Web and liaising with clinicians, hospitals and other healthcare professionals.
You will also provide general secretarial and administrative support, including scanning, filing and document management. The successful candidate will be organised, accurate and able to manage their workload effectively while maintaining confidentiality.
Job Purpose
To provide efficient and confidential secretarial and administrative support to the clinical team, with particular responsibility for patient referrals and related correspondence.
- Manage and process patient referrals through ERS.
- Monitor referrals and follow up outstanding actions where required.
- Liaise with clinicians, patients, hospitals and other healthcare professionals.
- Respond to patient queries professionally and promptly.
- Prepare and process insurance and private medical reports.
- Use EMIS Web to update patient records and complete administrative tasks.
- Prepare letters, reports and other correspondence.
- Scan, upload and file documents accurately.
- Provide general secretarial and administrative support to the clinical team.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR and practice policies.
- Support colleagues with additional duties during busy periods or staff absence.
Upper Halliford Medical Centre is a small, friendly GP practice with a list size of around 4,500 patients. We have 1 GP and 3 Locum Doctors, supported by a Healthcare Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacist and a stable, friendly administration team.
We work closely together to provide high-quality patient care and ensure the practice runs efficiently. We value teamwork, good communication, reliability and a positive attitude.

- Previous GP or healthcare experience.

- No specific formal qualification required.
Desirable
- Medical Secretarial/Administration qualification or equivalent experience.
