An exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant, this post supports the Finance Business Partner to provide sound Financial Management services to ...

Work with the Finance Business Partner to develop and implement effective financial policies and procedures to ensure the Health Board remains financially viable, minimises financial risk and maximises use of resources.

Manage staff in the Management Accountancy team.

Proactively contribute to the management of the financial performance of a portfolio of budgets, identifying the key financial pressures and appropriate corrective action.

Provide robust and timely budgetary control information, including manpower and associated activity data.

Advise and support managers in the preparation of business cases for revenue developments.

Maintain control systems over allocation of budgets and staffing establishments within areas of responsibility.

Prepare regular reports on the current and forecast financial position and performance for:

o Health Board Management Team

o Non-Executive Directors

o General Managers

o Service level budget holders

Prepare or verify forecast budget calculations on complex or/and high value and high-risk areas of expenditure, e.g. pharmacy, SLAs.

  • The Finance Department operates a hybrid working model, where each member of the team works from the office in Bronllys at least two days per week.

Qualifications

Essential: - Qualified (CCAB) Accountancy Qualification.

Knowledge and understanding

Essential

  • Management accounting experience
  • Significant experience of budgetary management
  • Use judgement on day-to-day priorities and operate on an individual basis

Desirable: - Significant experience of, and exposure to NHS Financial management accounting systems

Analytical Skills

Essential

  • Making decisions based on judgement and experience where there exists a wide range of options and where there is often highly complex and contradictory information to inform the situations
  • Ability to work with and analyse a wide range of both financial and non financial information in order to present meaningful information with a view to influencing decision making
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues and recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issues

Desirable: - Strategic thinking - ability to anticipate

Communication skills

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to understand, influence and persuade internal and external parties effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation in both verbal and written form.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret results and explain to non-finance staff

Desirable: - Ability to speak Welsh

Freedom to act

  • Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Able to work on own initiative, organise and prioritising own others workloads to changing and often tight deadlines
