The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.
1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time.
2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.
4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
6. To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
7. To be responsible for the clinical management of out-patients under your care.
8. The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.
Specific Duties of this post
- Deliver dedicated specialist clinics per week for complex regional gastroenterology presentations as well as provide inpatient support and advise.
- Diagnose and manage common gastrointestinal conditions including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), severe constipation, gastro-oesophageal reflux, food allergies, coeliac disease, and eosinophilic oesophagitis.
- Perform or supervise GI investigations (e.g., pH studies, and diagnostic upper/lower endoscopies depending on certified competencies).
- Establish shared-care networks with our tertiary centres at St Georges Hospital.
- Liaison and MDT working with the paediatric gastroenterology team at St Georges Hospital for complex tertiary referral.
3 x paediatric gastroenterology clinics per week.
1 x endoscopy list per week depending on certified competencies
1 x local paediatric gastroenterology MDT per week
1 x MDT with St Georges Hospital per week

Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration with a licence to practise.
- On or within 6 months of the GMC Specialist Register for General Paediatrics.
- Holder of a CCT/CESR in General Paediatrics.
- Membership of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child (MRCPCH)
- Level 3 child protection
- APLS / NLS
Desirable: - MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
Skills
Essential
- Broad experience in acute paediatric emergencies and neonatology.
- Documented experience in managing secondary-care paediatric gastroenterology
- Ability to independently assess CYP with a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders including (but not exclusive) Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), severe constipation, gastro-oesophageal reflux, food allergies, coeliac disease, and eosinophilic oesophagitis.
Desirable: - Ability to perform diagnostic upper/lower endoscopies
Knowledge
Essential
- Audit/Research
- Participation in Audit / QI projects and understanding of the Paediatric Peer Review Process and Best Practice Tariff
- Has attended a recognised management training event or will have such training on completion of CCT
- Supervision of post graduate trainees
- Personal time management skills

- Ability to organise out-patient waiting lists

- Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees

- Experience of supervising junior doctors
