Applications are invited from candidates with training in, and a passion for, Paediatric Gastroenterology. Special interests in specific areas of paediatric gastroenterology including IBD, GI immunology, adolescent medicine, nutrition, allergy, endoscopy, or pancreatico-hepatology would be welcomed.
You must possess MRCPCH or equivalent, and will be a registered medical practitioner on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register for Paediatrics within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee. CCT in paediatric gastroenterology or evidence of equivalent training / experience is essential.
To provide expert opinions on patients with a wide range of acute and longstanding paediatric gastroenterology problems, taking independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to them Contribute to the service delivering capsule endoscopy and wireless PH studies. Leadership and development of in hospital complex nutrition team (enteral and parenteral). Work closely with nursing, and other staff to create / further develop systems of care dedicated to the management of children with specific disorders, in keeping with the general philosophy of the department. Lead dedicated paediatric gastroenterology outpatient clinics. Undergo Continued Medical Education (CME) in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH). Undertake an annual appraisal and job plan review. It is expected that objectives within job plan reviews will be based on Trust objectives such as fulfilment of fixed contractual commitments on the basis of a 42 week working year with due allowance for statutory holidays.

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC Registration.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
- CCT in Paediatric Gastroenterology or equivalent experience / qualification.
Desirable
- Higher Degree.
- Special skills training in the specialty.
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Wide experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology.
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.
- Ability to coordinate the care of complex patients with other subspecialty paediatric teams.
- Experience in child protection/safeguarding.
Desirable
- Evidenced expertise in paediatric endoscopy
- Experience of the management of gastroenterological complications of stem cell transplantation.
- Experience in pH impedance study +/- wireless capsule endoscopy.
Management and Administration Experience
Essential
- Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty.
- Ability to run a service and participate in management process.
- An understanding of Clinical Governance and engagement.
Desirable
- Leadership and training experience.
- Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals.
- Evidence of leadership / project management.
- Evidence of having implemented change.
- Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines.
- Experience in developing and implementing new technologies.
Teaching
Essential
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff.
- Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills.
Desirable
- Attendance at courses to develop teaching skills.
- Postgraduate qualification in medical education.
Research
Essential
- Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings.
Desirable
- Higher degree.
Audit
Essential
- Evidence of participation in audit.
Desirable
- Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit.
- Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement.
