The successful candidate will join an established team of Consultant Neuroradiologists providing specialist diagnostic imaging services within one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The post holder will play a key role in delivering comprehensive neuroradiology services across University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, supporting both acute and elective patient pathways. The primary responsibilities will include reporting and supervising a full range of neuro CT and MRI examinations, providing acute neuroradiology MRI cover and supporting CT angiography reporting for hyperacute stroke services. The post holder will work closely with clinical colleagues across multiple specialties, offering expert imaging advice to support diagnosis, treatment planning and ongoing patient management. Participation in specialist multidisciplinary team meetings will form an important part of the role. The successful applicant will contribute to the neuroradiology consultant on-call rota, currently 1:13, helping to provide timely specialist radiological support for emergency and urgent cases. They will also support departmental service delivery through flexible working arrangements, assisting with acute and priority imaging workloads when required to meet service demands and waiting time targets.
This is an exciting opportunity to join University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust as a Locum Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist within a large, progressive and expanding Imaging Department. The successful candidate will become part of an established neuroradiology team, delivering specialist imaging services across a major teaching hospital, tertiary referral centre and Level 1 Major Trauma Centre.
The post holder will provide expert diagnostic neuroradiology services, with a primary focus on the reporting and supervision of neuro CT and MRI examinations. They will work closely with consultant colleagues to support acute and elective neuroimaging pathways, including acute stroke imaging services and specialist neuroradiology multidisciplinary team meetings.
Main Responsibilities - Provide specialist reporting and clinical supervision across the full range of neuroradiology CT and MRI examinations.
- Deliver acute neuroradiology MRI services and support CT angiography reporting for stroke pathways.
- Participate in the consultant neuroradiology on-call rota, currently 1 in 13, providing out-of-hours specialist advice and reporting support.
- Contribute to specialist multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and provide expert neuroradiology input to patient management decisions.
- Work collaboratively with radiology and clinical colleagues to ensure safe, effective and timely delivery of imaging services while meeting national waiting time targets.
- Support the development and delivery of high-quality neuroradiology services across UHCW sites and future Community Diagnostic Centre facilities.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and risk management activities to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
- Supervise, train and mentor radiology trainees and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education through links with Warwick Medical School and regional training programmes.
- Maintain continuing professional development, annual appraisal and GMC revalidation requirements.
- Develop research, innovation and service improvement initiatives that contribute to the ongoing advancement of neuroradiology services within the Trust.
- Provide specialist advice and consultation to medical colleagues across the Trust and external healthcare partners where appropriate.
- Support departmental flexibility by assisting with priority acute and emergency imaging workloads when required to meet service demands.
The successful candidate will join a department comprising over 50 Consultant Radiologists, supported by specialist trainees, reporting radiographers, sonographers, nurses and advanced imaging practitioners.
