The appointee will join the Dermatology team as a locum Consultant Dermatologist, and will be expected to participate in all facets of department activity.
The post will be based in the Dermatology Centre on the St Marys Campus in Portsmouth.
We are looking for colleagues who
can demonstrate their ability to work as part of our efficient and cohesive
multidisciplinary team and interact well with local GPs. The department
provides a large part of the Wessex dermatology SpR rotation in addition to
post CCT surgical fellow and research fellow. The successful candidate would
join the dermatology emergency rota supervising junior doctors on call.

The Department
The Portsmouth Dermatology Centre
was designed by the clinicians in Portsmouth and is purpose built. It is one of the best facilities for
Dermatology in the Country. The unit is
located on D Block of St. Marys
Hospital Campus. It became operational
in November 2002 and consists of consulting suites, minor surgery theatres, day
treatment rooms, PUVA suites, Mohs laboratory,
patch testing, administrative offices and a multi-media seminar room. We have an active research structure and are
currently recruiting for international and national phase 3 trials (biologics
and photodynamic therapy) as well as a number of NIHR adopted observational
studies.
The department consists of
fourteen consultant dermatologists, one associate specialist, four specialist
registrars, a research fellow, a clinical fellow, with one IMT, an FY2 and a GP
trainee.
Dermatology is part of the Cancer
Service Centre of Portsmouth Hospitals. Dr Ann Lonsdale-Eccles is the
Clinical Director for Dermatology. Portsmouth purchasers are committed to
investment in Dermatology to improve local access times and make progress
toward Health of the Nation targets in relation to skin cancer.
We have a very well developed
nursing team led by a modern matron, 4 clinical nurse specialists and skin
cancer nurse specialists. In addition, we have senior staff nurses who are
responsible for surgical dermatology and paediatric dermatology. We have been
active in developing nurse led surgical services and a dedicated research
nurse. Three secretaries support the clinicians within the Centre.
The majority of outpatients are
seen at St. Marys, but clinics are also held in surrounding hospitals in;
Gosport, Petersfield and Fareham where a successful candidate would have a
complimentary role. Joint clinics are undertaken with Rheumatology, Genito-Urinary
medicine/Gynaecology, Oncology, Radiotherapy, Plastic Surgery and Paediatrics.
A Periocular MDT is held once a month with the Mohs team. Expansion of single speciality and joint
speciality clinics in keeping with the need for national recognition in
specialty commissioning would be supported.
In June 2009 the newly developed
Queen Alexandra Hospital opened. Dermatology will remain on the St Marys site
but shared care arrangements for paediatric dermatology and acute adult
dermatology are in place for in patient care on the Queen Alexandra site.
Dermatology is part of the Cancer Service Centre
of Portsmouth Hospitals. Dr G Sega-Hall
is the Clinical Director for Dermatology.

Essential
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- MBBS/MRCP or equivalent

- Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights
- An appropriate SpR experience in Dermatology culminating in CCST in Dermatology
