The Lead Resuscitation Officer will be responsible, in conjunction with the Chair of the Resuscitation committee and the Head of Education, for the strategy and direction of the established resuscitation services across South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT).
The post holder will be responsible for providing expert advice, training, and oversight on all aspects of Resuscitation and management of the deteriorating patient, advising staff throughout the organisation on issues relating to training, equipment and incident management and prevention. They will lead the development and implementation of the Trust Resuscitation Policy and Procedures and will be advising appropriate managers and departments of compliance.
Will have expert level adult and paediatric resuscitation knowledge, skills and experience and be able to advise the Trust on adherence to National Resuscitation Standards and recommend how these can be achieved locally.
Have excellent leadership and communication skills to manage the dayto-day responsibility as the designated resuscitation advisor for the Trust.
Will hold and maintain advanced level resuscitation qualifications and skills in order to lead and be part of cardiac arrests/ peri arrest call response, able to respond to medical emergencies and paediatric emergencies throughout all areas of the Trust as well as the emergency department alerts when appropriate.
To be able to act as a senior clinical role model and educator to support staff and quality assurance in emergency events.
Have a good understanding of risk, governance and compliance aspects. Contribute to Risk Assessments as needed.
Work collaboratively with other teams within the Trust to ensure that we comply with National guidelines as well as local targets for our compliance to statutory and mandatory and essential training.
Be skilled problem solver in relation to critical and time pressured issues seeking out collaborative partners and allies to ensure that safety is upheld.
Have excellent mentorship skills to support and develop the resuscitation service workforce.
Be responsive, empathetic and embed a culture of wellbeing and psychological safety amongst the team.
Have a practical knowledge and understanding of planning, organising and implementing resuscitation training of all levels as a managed schedule. Coordinate with Medical Education and Training, Course Faculty members, and external providers as needed.
Be able to present complex data and reports to high level groups within the organisation.
Understand the NHS budget and procurement processes.
Have a strong sense of responsibility, accountability and bravery to support the trust and provide an ethical patient focused service.
Be a reflective practitioner, able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Offer highly specialised sound clinical advice to staff involved in emergency situations with regard to latest research evidence.
Be able to demonstrate a high standard of post event hot (STOP 5) and cold debriefing skills.
Formulate and contribute to long term and strategic plans to deliver aims of the Trust with regards to prevention of and the management of cardiac arrest events.
Corporate responsibility for the implementation and development of resuscitation policy and procedures throughout the Trust.
Interpret and implement national and local Policies and Guidelines to enable effective resuscitation at all levels, establishing how these should be interpreted.
Make recommendations to the Resuscitation Committee and the Head of Education to enable policy to evolve to show best practice.
Liaise with national bodies (e.g. Resuscitation Council UK; Advanced Life Support Group, Manchester, Sepsis Trust, ReSPECT) and other relevant organisations.
Work collaboratively with other health care professionals and groups to deliver training to support the skills necessary for recognition and response to deteriorating patient and resuscitation ensuring compliance with national standards e.g. NHS England, CQC, Resuscitation Council UK. ReSPECT
Ensure that ICT is utilised and coordinate with Learning and Development to ensure an adequate record and certification of those trained in resuscitation techniques in accordance with National standards is readily available.
Actively seek innovative ways of improving efficiency and standards of the resuscitation service and develop proposals for consideration by Resuscitation, Safety or other trust committees.
Membership of Trust Resuscitation Committee.
To lead the monitoring of clinical incidents and audit in relation to hospital and Community cardiopulmonary resuscitations involving SWFT staff,
Investigate incidents relating to ReSPECT process, Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation decisions, Resuscitation Equipment and the investigation of any problems or difficulties using these as a basis for improving resuscitation care.
Support investigation response to incidents relating to escalation of a deteriorating patient.
Prepare and present reports for Resuscitation Committee, Quality, Governance and Safety Committees and site-specific groups and be able to communicate strategic information to ensure best practice.

Qualifications
Essential
- NMC registered or HCPC registration
- Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS instructor
- Resuscitation Council (UK) EPALS instructor
- Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS Course Director
- Educated to Master's level (in a healthcare related subject) or relevant equivalent experience
- Evidence of post reg qualification such as Critical Care course/ Specialist Practice modules
- Leadership/ Management qualification
- Post graduate Certificate in Education or equivalent teaching qualification
- Relevant specialist clinical training, experience, short courses, CPD to master's level or equivalent

- There is an occasional requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several short periods during a shift. Manoeuvres patients, use of hoists/lifting of equipment some of which will be substantial
- There is an occasional requirement for concentration where the work pattern is unpredictable. Interruptions to planned work can occur and does include responding to an emergency bleep across sites.
- Frequent exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Care of the terminally ill; and occasional exposure to highly distressing or highly emotional circumstances. Imparting news of unexpected deaths.
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions including bodily fluids or attending emergencies in outdoor environments
- Will need to be able to travel to different Trust sites to provide service
- There will sometimes be a need to facilitate courses at weekends
