The Lung Cancer Screening Programme commences in the Trust in October 2026. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to ...

To be the link between the screening programme and the clinical teams, until the patient is incorporated into the clinical service. Primarily for patients with an abnormal CT chest result but also for other incidental findings under agreed protocol.

To co-ordinate onward referral for patients as appropriate onto a cancer pathway or other specialist service if required.

To attend the weekly Screening Review Meetings, present and discuss abnormal results. To take responsibility for ensuring all agreed actions are completed.

Identify the specific educational needs of those at risk of lung cancer and their carers so that they are empowered to manage their condition and seek appropriate help and advice.

To be known as a resource and provide clinical support throughout the Trust.

To provide information, expert nursing advice and emotional practical support to patients with lung cancer and other incidental findings in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

To manage own workload, maintain accurate records and statistics as required.

Allocating regular time slots for non-clinical work.

Demonstrate as an expert practitioner interdisciplinary team working skills, enabling the improvement of holistic patient care with the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registered Nurse
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Master's level degree or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • CPD / Specialist course in Respiratory to at least degree level

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of multi-professional working
  • Experience of teaching
  • Experience of working in a screening programme

Desirable

  • Significant experience in a senior position,
  • Recent experience in an oncology setting.
  • Experience in the broad range of treatment modality settings for lung cancer.
