An exciting opportunity has become available for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at The Daley Centre.

The Daley Care Centre is a specialist Neurological Complex Care service in Sheffield, dedicated to supporting individuals with high nursing needs, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and complex neurological conditions.

Experience in complex care such as Spinal Injuries, Tracheostomy care, Suctioning, and Enteral Feeding is desirable in this role.

Job Purpose

As an SLT you will be working directly with a specialist caseload of patients with complex needs to assess their speech, language and cognitive communication needs as well as eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) needs, including specialist input into tracheostomy management, prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC), and Nil by Mouth (NBM) pathways.

Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), the post holder will deliver input in line with the Cygnet SLT pathway for Neurological Complex Care and act as the lead for Speech and Language Therapy within the service, supporting rehabilitation, risk management, safety, wellbeing and quality of life through evidence-based assessment and intervention.

The role will contribute to the development of person-centred care pathways, provide specialist advice and consultation, support staff training and competency development, and lead on the implementation of interventions that optimise communication, swallowing function, participation and overall clinical outcomes for service users with highly complex neurological and rehabilitation needs.

You will be part of a company-wide SLT service and as such will have the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects. You will receive high-quality supervision and be supported with CPD.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists)

Competency to independently assess and manage EDS needs (essential)

Experience in the field of acquired brain injury, neuroprogressive conditions, spinal injuries, evidenced by high level of clinical SLT knowledge.

Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning

Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others

Excellent communication / time management skills
