Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant and a qualification in Healthcare would be essential for this post. Experience of clinical work in the community is desirable, but training will be offered to the successful applicant.

There is an expectation that the successful candidate will undertake our in-house development program for extended skills. This will involve insulin administration, injections and wound care.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Good general level of education (to include Maths and English)
  • Equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3
  • Completion of the Care Certificate

Experience

Essential

  • Awareness of the role of the Healthcare Support Worker

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of the role of the health care assistant role in context, including phlebotomy and wound care, and other clinical skills relevant to role
  • Awareness of accountability issues e.g. confidentiality
  • Knowledge of situations and circumstances that can impact on patient safety and demonstrate understanding of how the healthcare support worker contributes to maintaining patient safety
  • Good interpersonal skills (written and oral)
  • The ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff both written and orally and demonstrate a level of English language and grammar commensurate with writing in service user case notes
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with a potentially difficult situation

Other

Essential

  • Ability to meet the travel needs of the post. (The post holder will be required to travel to any location as required by the organisation). Within community nursing teams, the post holder will be required to travel to patients homes
