Healthcare Assistant

• support annual reviews checks for chronic diseases e.g hypertension, diabetes, asthma etc
• Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring
• Carry out ECGs
• Carry out BMI checks and provide weight management advice
• Administer Blood Tests
• Carry out Spirometry tests
• Intramuscular injections under PSD
• Undertake wound care and carry out simple dressings
• Removal of sutures
• Undertake NHS Health Check
• Processing of samples e.g. urine
• Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
• Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
• Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
• Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording including weekly data loggers
• Medical equipment and vaccine ordering, stocking control and rotation
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations, coil fits and contraceptive implant fitting
• Act as a chaperone as required
• Participating in administrative tasks to support the practice in meeting QOF targets
• Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Practice Nurse or Practice Business Manager.

• Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
• Participate in audit where appropriate

Essential

• Healthcare qualification (or working towards)
• Phlebotomy certificate
• ECG training
• Immunisation and vaccination

• Experience of working in a primary healthcare setting
• Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity to maintain up to date knowledge and on-going competence
• Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team

• Understanding and knowledge of policy related to delivery of Primary Care including the PMS contract, Clinical Governance and Quality and Outcomes Framework
• Understanding the health needs of Primary Care

• Time management and ability to prioritise workload
