The role will form part of a new Integrated Care Mental Health team, delivering low level therapeutic interventions. The postholder will support people with mental illnesses in the self-management of their recovery, building a professional relationship of trust in a non-judgmental manner with every client, as a basis for developing and enabling therapeutic relationships.
This role involves providing support based on mental health coaching, motivational interviewing, change management, psychoeducation (including around wider health and substance issues), grounding and emotional regulation. This ranges from providing informal information, 1 to 1 support, enablement of engagement with other professionals, facilitating group activities and forums and ad hoc support for those experiencing emotional distress.
They will work alongside the other staff in the mental health team to deliver high quality, mental health support during an individuals time in Ridgeway at Roseberry Park Hospital and in onward planning for their discharge into the community.
The Postholder will be offered a full induction to the TEWV setting and to the Rethink organisation, which will include HWBC training packages and will have ongoing, regular supervision delivered by a Senior HWBC. Rethink staff will have access to the free onsite parking and free onsite gym/ staff fitness sessions.

Overview of the role purpose
I work as part of an integrated care mental health team delivering low level therapeutic interventions, working alongside other professionals to support the mental health of the secure hospital population. I support people with mental illnesses in the self-management of their recovery, building a professional relationship of trust in a non-judgmental manner with every client, as a basis for developing and enabling therapeutic relationships.
This role involves providing support based on mental health coaching, motivational interviewing, change management, psychoeducation (including around wider health and substance issues), grounding and emotional regulation. This ranges from providing informal information, one-to-one support, enablement of engagement with other professionals, facilitating group activities and forums and ad hoc support for those in need of some additional support. I work alongside and in partnership with the Psychology team, supporting in delivering high quality mental health and well-being support during an individuals time in Roseberry Park Hospital and in onward planning along their treatment journey. This role is ward based to enhance visibility and engagement for both patients and ward staff, promoting integration with ward teams.
I will work with the following people and teams:
- Integrated Mental Health Teams (including Psychologists, Assistant, Psychologists, Registered Nurses, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists etc)
- Specialist Psychologists
- Place Based Division within Rethink Mental Illness
- Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust
Rethink Mental Illness will work alongside Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) to pilot a new Integrated Care Mental Health team with the postholder being co-located onsite at Ridgeway, Roseberry Park hospital, working directly onto the wards Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm.
Qualifications
Essential
- Experience of working with people with mental health needs (both 1-1 and in groups) in a coaching and goal setting way.
- Experience of developing and co-ordinating projects and activities.
- Excellent group facilitation skills, active listening and building rapport.
- Completed training or qualification relevant to the post, e.g. Train the trainer, mental health coaching, motivational interviewing, recovery training, Peer Support Worker or Coaching.
- Working knowledge and understanding of mental health and ability to recognise the indicators of deteriorating mental health.
- I operate from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.
- Experience of working in a recovery focused manner and delivering recovery education.
- Ability to support, coach and encourage people to influence, speak out and lead within their own communities including those from marginalised communities.
- I work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and collectively.
- I prioritise workload demands and positively respond to unforeseen challenges.
- I deal with stressful and difficult situations in a calm manner.

- I have working knowledge of standard IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, and use of database / information systems.
Desirable
- Experience working in secure environments or experience of working with those convicted of offences
- Health education qualification, such approved Mental Health First Aid Practitioner
- Experience of co-production.
