Health Care Support Worker

• Safely carrying out moving and handling activities in line with Trust policies.
• Collecting and handling patient specimens for ward and laboratory testing.
• Preparing patients for treatments, investigations and clinical procedures, providing reassurance and support.
• Undertaking and recording routine clinical observations.
• Promptly reporting any concerns or changes in a patient's condition to the Registered Nurse.
• Undertaking delegated clinical skills such as blood glucose monitoring, venepuncture and cannulation, following appropriate training and competency assessment.
• Supporting the maintenance of a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
• Ensuring the safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
• Carrying out a range of administrative duties, including reception and telephone responsibilities, record keeping and use of electronic systems.
• Demonstrating effective IT and computer skills.
• Promoting and protecting the dignity, wellbeing and individual needs of patients and their families at all times.

Essential

• NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care gained by working in a vocational capacity or relevant healthcare support work experience
• Care Certificate standard training gained by working in a vocational capacity - we will not accept an online care certificate
• Be able to demonstrate basic numeracy and literacy

Desirable

• Evidence of additional developmental courses undertaken relevant to HCSW role

Essential

• Demonstrable recent paid experience working in a care environment within the UK (required for completion of NVQ)
• Understands the role of a Healthcare Support Worker and can evidence this in the application form

Desirable

• Previous experience of having supervised a junior colleague
• Understands the role of a Healthcare Support Worker within a Pre-Assessment Clinic.
