To Work in the Portering Department at Conquest Hospital on a alternating shift pattern. Monday to Sunday 0800-1600 and 1430-0000 on a alternating shi...
Movement of patients, escort of patients and visitors.
- Mortuary duties
- Bodies to be transported to the mortuary as require
- In the absence of the mortuary assistant to:
- Arrange access to the mortuary for appropriate persons as directed.
- It may be necessary to assist Ambulance crews and/or Contracted Funeral Director during admission.
Deliveries
- To provide a collection and delivery service as required for internal specimens, theatre/x-ray lists.
Equipment, Furniture and Fittings
- Patient related equipment to be clean and in good repair, defects to be reported to the Duty Team Leader.
- Furniture and other equipment to be moved around the hospitals when and where required
Medical Gas
- The delivery of empty/full cylinders as required. This will include manifold rooms and associated piped gas systems.
- To attend to or report any defects with the medical gas supply as required.
- To attend the appropriate ward or department immediately with the appropriate equipment and assistance upon hearing the alarms for:
- Cardiac arrest / Lucas Machine
- Major incident, Hazchem and CBRN incidents
- Traumas
- Helicopter landing
- Fire alarm
- Patient Collapse

Qualifications
Essential: - Evidence of good general education, including Maths and English
Desirable: - Knowledge of portering role / NVQ level 2
Experience
Essential: - Previous Portering experience; - Previous experience of working as part of a team
Desirable: - Customer Service or relevant experience relating to NHS
Skills
Essential
- Knowledge of general hospital environment
- Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised
- Good communication skills both verbal and non-verbal
- Ability to complete basic written reports
- Ability to prioritise duties against set parameters
- Must be able to carry 56lbs in weight
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device
