The postholder will contribute to the development and delivery of agreed gardening service plans, ensuring that the grounds and garden areas are maintained to the required standards.
You will work in accordance with the agreed schedules and rosters to support the delivery of an effective and cost-efficient service to the Trust.
You will respond appropriately to informal complaints where possible and escalates significant or unresolved matters promptly to the Grounds and Gardens Supervisor.
Undertakes a range of gardening duties to include:
- Preparing ground for seeding and planting activities.
- Sowing seeds and establishing a variety of plants.
- Assessing, maintaining and improving general amenity turf areas.
- Creating and maintaining decorative amenity areas, including mixed borders, formal bedding, containers and climbing plants.
- Carrying out edging, staking and pruning of ornamental flowering trees, shrubs and plants.
In addition to this, the post holder will maintain grounds, footpaths, car parks, roadways and associated areas in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring gullies and gutters remain clear of leaves and debris,
You will complete training and attend courses considered beneficial to the role and to the individual's continued development with in the Health Service.
You will undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and capabilities of the post holder, as directed by the Grounds and Gardens Supervisor.

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ / Diploma / RHS Level 2 or willing to work towards an Amenity Horticulture or equivalent
- Willing to undertake any specific training appropriate to the post.
- Numeracy and Literacy to level 2.
- Experience of Grounds Maintenance
- A keen and invested interest in horticulture
Desirable
- Certification for machine maintenance.
- Pesticide certification PA1 / PA6 or a strong willing to undertake this certification.
- City and Guilds level 2 award in chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting.
- Willing to undertake Level 3 supervisory qualification should this be requested
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 12 months experience working in an amenity horticulture environment.
- Evidence of working in a team environment
- Efficient in the use of all Microsoft
- Office programs including, word, excel and Microsoft outlook
Desirable: - Experience of hard and soft landscaping
Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety Regulations and legislation
- Ability to use a wide range of horticultural nonpowered and powered tools and equipment
- Good understanding of plant knowledge, their maintenance requirements, identification and propagation
- Knowledge of horticultural duties relevant to decorative amenity areas
Desirable: - Identification methods and control of pests and diseases.
