Responsibilities include
- Respond promptly to calls, operating effectively both independently and as part of a clinical team
- Accurately record, process, and share patient information, including observations and treatment, with relevant healthcare partners (within GDPR Guidelines)
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Control Room and colleagues in line with operational and clinical protocols
- Provide an appropriate initial assessment and immediate care within the FREC 3/4 scope and organisational policies.
- Recognise illness, injury and patient deterioration and request appropriate clinical support.
- Record observations, care provided and escalation decisions accurately.
- Support safe, dignified and person-centred patient transport where assigned.
- Assist patients with mobility, wheelchairs and transfers.
- Provide first-response medical cover at events as part of an agreed clinical structure.
- Work effectively with clinicians, control teams, event staff and emergency services.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, consent and confidentiality.
- Follow safeguarding, infection prevention, information governance and incident-reporting procedures.
- Check and maintain equipment, consumables and vehicles.
- Safely assist with the movement and handling of patients using appropriate techniques and equipment following risk assessment
- Work only within your verified scope of practice and seek support whenever a patients needs exceed it.
Transport walking patients
Transport patients requiring the use of a wheelchair
Transport patients requiring assistance with moving and handling, including the use of the carry chair and other manual handling aids
Transport patients requiring the use of a stretcher
Administer First Aid where necessary
Complete vehicle and journey documentation
Drive ambulance vehicles demonstrating; Consideration for the roadcondition, comfort and safety of the patient, vehicle sympathy,consideration to other road users and the highway code
Identify any potential problems or concerns within the patients home environment (especially vulnerable adults and children); report them tothe appropriate Team Leader, Medical Staff and follow the correctYorMed reporting procedure
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with YorMeds policy
Undertake any required training in order to ensure quality care and bestpatient experience
Participate in the YorMed infection control procedure routine for cleaning
Work in accordance with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and Manual Handling regulations 1992 as outlined in YorMed policies and procedures.
Ensure that the ambulance vehicle and its equipment are in operationalreadiness and report any defects.
Perform a daily vehicle inspection and equipment check at the start ofeach shift
Be responsible for a basic level of vehicle maintenance and for all equipment on each vehicle
Maintain the highest professional standards in the representation of YorMed, the delivery of patient care, patient safety and patient experience
Attend to any first aid emergency or Major Incident which the postholder may come across during routine journeys.
Transport and care for all patients in the post holder's care i.e. transport walking patients, wheel chair patients and those requiring a carry chair or the use of manual handling aids
Reschedule any planned work to accommodate additional patients the post holder may be required to transport.
The post holder may be required to carry out a job of equal or less value than this post with relevant training to maintain service deliverance
Support the YorMed Equality and Diversity policy
Work within the Data Protection and Information Governance policies
- Attend events and provide basic first aid, if required to attendees and members of the public.
- Recognise when to call for urgent assistance ie 999
- Administer resuscitation and use a Defibrillator
- Administer oxygen to patients when needed
YorMed Ltd is an independent CQC registered provider with a Good rating based in the beautiful rural countryside at Eddlethorpe - just outside of Malton, and close to the city of York.
We specialise in non urgent patient transport including repatriations working with NHS hospitals, ICB's, and local councils. We also provide medics for public and private events such as sporting events, Christmas Markets, family fun days, bonfire nights and specialist events.
We have a fleet of ambulances to support a range of patient transfers including specialist mental health transportation and bariatric adapted ambulances, as well as standard stretcher and wheelchair ambulances.
YorMed's work varies from short patient transport trips to longer transport journeys that traditional ambulance services are unable to provide.

Experience
Essential
- UK driving licence with no more than 3 points.
- C1 Driving or Driver Training completed
- Experience in moving and handling patients and use of equipment
- Good written and verbal skills
- Physically fit - is able to undertake moving and handling of patients and equipment
- Experience of working with medical bags, clinical stock, medication and equipment.
- Understands use of medication recording and reporting
- Experience of completing patient handover documentation
- Understands patient risk assessments
Desirable
- Previous experience of working with Ambulances would be useful but not essential as training can be given.
- Good understanding of CQC regulated activities and working under policies and procedures for CQC governance.

- FREC5, FREC 4 or FREC 3 IS ESSENTIAL
Desirable
- A good standard of education is desirable ie GCSE's grades C+
- Emergency Vehicle driver training is desirable
