Estates Electrical Operative

• Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and minor repair works on electrical installations and associated building services across all Trust sites to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests, diagnose faults and carry out repairs or assist competent electrical staff with more complex works, ensuring minimal disruption to clinical services.
• Support the maintenance and testing of essential electrical systems, including lighting, emergency lighting, small power, nurse call systems and other critical infrastructure that directly supports patient care.
• Assist with planned engineering programmes and electrical installation works, ensuring compliance with Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), British Standards, statutory regulations and Trust policies.
• Complete maintenance records, job documentation, timesheets and inspection reports accurately using Trust maintenance systems while contributing to estates' surveys and audits.
• Participate in the Trust's out-of-hours on-call rota and respond to emergency maintenance incidents, ensuring continuity of critical engineering services across all hospital sites.

• Assist with the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical infrastructure, including lighting, emergency lighting, small power, nurse call systems and other essential engineering services.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests, identify faults and carry out repairs or escalate complex issues to the appropriate competent person or team leader.
• Support the delivery of statutory maintenance programmes, ensuring that engineering systems remain safe, reliable and compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with electrical installations, enabling works and minor projects under the supervision of qualified electrical staff.
• Complete maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, job dockets and timesheets accurately using the Trust's maintenance management systems.
• Work collaboratively with other estates trades and contractors to deliver an integrated maintenance service across all hospital sites.
• Prioritise workloads to meet changing operational demands and maintain high standards of safety, quality and customer service.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), tools and equipment and comply with safe systems of work, risk assessments and Trust health and safety policies.
• Participate in estates inspections, audits and quality assurance activities, identifying opportunities for service improvement and supporting continuous compliance.
• Communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients, contractors and colleagues, providing updates on maintenance activities while minimising disruption to clinical services.
• Participate in the Trust's out-of-hours on-call rota and work overtime when required to respond to emergency situations and maintain critical engineering services.
• Support colleagues across the Estates and Facilities Department, assisting other engineering disciplines where appropriate to ensure an efficient and resilient maintenance service.
• Undertake mandatory training and continuous professional development to maintain technical competence and support the evolving needs of the service.

Essential

• Recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds, modern apprenticeship, NVQ level 2 or approved equivalent training in Electrical/Engineering
• NC/HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience
• Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience within the required technical disciplines (e.g.: Fire Alarms, Small Power, Lighting, Emergency Lighting, standby power systems, BMS, Nurse Call Systems, Facilities Management Software etc.)

Desirable

• Trained in Health & Safety, i.e. First Aid, NEBOSH, IOSH, etc
• Registration with approved organisations, i.e. UK Register of Electricians, JIB Schemes, Gas Safe, etc.
• Member of relevant healthcare or engineering institutes, i.e. IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE, IET etc
• Experience across several of the HTM's acting as either a CP or AP
• Full Driving Licence

Essential

• Knowledge of maintenance methodologies
• Knowledge of HTM's, HBN's and Estates specific legislation
• Specialist knowledge gained from working in a health care engineering environment or prepared to work towards gaining
• Must be multi-skilled in Electrical Trades
• Experience of working within and developing a 'safe system of work'
