1. To be a professional role model, leading and coordinating the ward/department team. Taking continuing responsibility and accountability for the 24-hour management and organization of theWard/Department. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.
2. Provide specialist nursing advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
3. At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
4. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
5. To ensure that the unit is well led and that the teams are being proactive in the delivery of the:
KEY RESULT AREAS: 1. Operational management of the department.2. Clinical and Professional issues3. Communication4. Performance management and service development5. Teaching and supervision6. Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse (RN) with NMC
- Specialist course (or experience) in Endoscopy.
- Preparation for Mentorship course or equivalent
- Bsc/ MSc or working towards and evidence of continuing education
Desirable: - Masters Degree; - Endoscopy module; - Teaching / Education qualification; - Designated User qualification (Decontamination)
Experience
Essential
- Post registration experience including recent experience within Endoscopy or related services.
- Therapeutic competence in Endoscopy procedures
- Able to relate to people of varied ethnic, social, cultural backgrounds.
- People Management/ Line management experience
Desirable: - To have experience in writing clinical protocols.; - Experience of facilitating care between different care settings.; - Teaching / Education experience
Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of current and emerging NHS strategy, policy and Endoscopy JAG standards, Infectious diseases, Respiratory Nursing
- Expert knowledge of endoscopic procedures including OGD, Colonoscopy and bronchoscopy, EBUS, ERCP, Oesophageal/colonic dilatation/stenting.
- How to identify and reduce risks with regards to health and wellbeing
- Understanding of own Knowledge and Skills and ability to identify learning needs and interests of nursing team
- Ability to self-reflect, carry out tasks of own job and identify what s/he needs to learn to able to improve current job performance
- Ability to take an active role in agreed learning activities and keeps a record of them
- Ability to offer constructive suggestions for service improvement and or development
Desirable: - Knowledge of capsule endoscopy is desirable
