As an Emergency Care Assistant (ECA), you will support Paramedics and other clinicians in delivering high-quality emergency and urgent care to patients in pre-hospital settings. You will work as part of an ambulance crew, responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents, providing compassionate patient care, and helping ensure patients receive timely and appropriate treatment.
The role combines clinical support, patient handling, emergency driving (where qualified), and operational responsibilities, requiring excellent teamwork, communication, and professionalism. You will play a key role in maintaining the readiness of vehicles and equipment while providing reassurance and support to patients and their families during often challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities - Assist Paramedics and other clinicians with patient assessment, treatment, and ongoing care.
- Respond to emergency and urgent care incidents as part of an ambulance crew.
- Provide safe, compassionate, and patient-centred care in accordance with clinical guidance and organisational policies.
- Safely drive ambulance vehicles under emergency and non-emergency conditions when authorised and qualified.
- Assist with lifting, moving, and transporting patients using appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient care records using electronic systems.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, colleagues, and partner agencies.
- Ensure vehicles, medical equipment, and supplies are clean, stocked, checked, and operationally ready.
- Comply with all health and safety, infection prevention, safeguarding, and clinical governance requirements.
- Participate in mandatory training, continuous professional development, and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uphold the values and reputation of the organisation at all times.

Qualifications
Essential
- First response in emergency care level 4 (or equivalent)
- Recognised blue light qualification (CERAD / Trust qualification)
- Full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Previous experience working as an ECA (Not essential)
