Reporting to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer, you will act as the Trust's subject matter expert for Acute and Emergency Service. You will be responsible for day-to-day operational management. The post holder will assist the the Divisional Team in ensuring that the Care Group & Division delivers its financial, activity, patient experience and clinical & quality targets.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master's degree or equivalent learning in a professional or numerate discipline

Experience

Essential

  • Senior NHS Management experience
  • In-depth specialist knowledge of elective care, cancer and associated constitutional standard rules gained through extensive experience
  • Extensive experience in financial, performance and staff management
  • Experience of managing significant improvement projects and service redesign
  • Experience of managing a service with competing stakeholders.
  • Experience of undertaking service planning taking into account finance, manpower, equipment and organisational factors
  • Knowledge of the national and regional health strategies
  • Ability to develop reports within tight deadlines

Desirable

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email, and have standard keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of the clinical governance agenda

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to negotiate with others in the organisation and externally
  • Experience of conducting negotiations involving highly complex, sensitive and contentious matters

Analytical & Judgement

Essential

  • Ability to analyse and interpret management and patient information and make recommendations to others
  • Ability to prioritise and quickly identify the core issues in a situation
