As Director of Financial Sustainability, you will provide strategic leadership for the Trust's financial sustainability, productivity and transformation agenda. Working closely with the Trust Board, Executive Team, Senior Leadership Team, clinicians and operational leaders, you will support the delivery of Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs), efficiency initiatives and financial recovery plans that support long-term organisational sustainability while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, quality and safety.
The role requires exceptional leadership, influencing and communication skills, with responsibility for engaging stakeholders at all levels, presenting complex information, managing challenging conversations and driving consensus on significant organisational change.
You will provide expert analysis, strategic insight and advice to support Board-level decision-making, oversee the development of productivity metrics and business cases, and ensure robust financial governance, performance monitoring and reporting arrangements are in place.
The postholder will hold accountability for the co-ordination of financial performance (Trust wide) associated with the development and implementation of the Trusts cost efficiency programmeensuring initiatives deliver measurable benefits, value for money and improved outcomes for patients and communities across North Cumbria.

Essential
- Proven skills in strategic planning (within and across organisations), management and delivery with a key focus on financial sustainability
- Effective and proven leadership skills
- Demonstrable negotiating and influencing skills.
- The highest level of interpersonal communication skills with demonstrable ability to engage staff and stakeholders at all levels.
- The ability to engage and involve senior clinical staff in core business and clinical processes, planning and decision making.
- The ability to motivate others in a rapidly changing environment.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Knowledge
Essential
- Significant experience at senior management level in a large complex organisation
- Specialist knowledge of financial management, performance management, continuous improvement, people management, information systems
- Working understanding of NHS policy, financial infrastructure and CRP frameworks
- Experience of working effectively across organisational boundaries
- Demonstrable evidence of leading meaningful change across complex environments
- Experience of leading and delivering service improvement in clinical services. Experience of collaborating with senior leaders at or just below Board level
- Proven experience of leading departments in complex budgetary and financial management
- Significant and proven experience of managing people effectively
- Considerable experience in developing and implementing service strategies to meet agreed financial envelopes, coordinating effective operational efficiency and effectiveness programmes to ensure financial sustainability.
- Extensive experience in coordinating CIP and effectiveness / efficiency schemes to ensure that clinical quality and safety are maintained.

- Educated to Masters Level or equivalent work-based experience
- Additional Management qualification/training
