Job description

We are recruiting for a Dietitian to join our team! Southern Hill Hospital is preparing to open a new specialist Addiction Treatment Service for adults aged 18 and over, providing high-quality, person-centred support for individuals affected by substance misuse and co-occurring mental health needs. Our new service is being developed to offer compassionate, evidence-based care within a safe and therapeutic environment where individuals can begin rebuilding stability, confidence, and independence. Job Purpose To assess, diagnose, and manage patients’ nutritional needs, providing evidence-based dietary advice to support recovery, improve health outcomes, and promote overall wellbeing. Key Responsibilities Clinical Assessment & Care

Assess patients’ nutritional status and dietary needs Develop and implement personalised nutrition care plans Monitor and review patient progress, adjusting plans as needed Provide specialist advice for patients with conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and eating disorders

Patient Support & Education

Educate patients, families, and carers on healthy eating and nutrition Support behaviour change and promote long-term healthy habits Deliver one-to-one consultations and group education sessions

Multidisciplinary Working

Work closely with doctors, nurses, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals Contribute to patient care plans and clinical reviews Provide nutritional input during ward rounds and case discussions

Documentation & Administration

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records Use electronic health systems to document care and outcomes Prepare reports and contribute to audits or service evaluations

Health Promotion

Support public health initiatives and nutritional awareness programmes Develop resources such as meal plans, leaflets, and guidance materials

Person Specification Essential Qualifications & Skills

Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council Strong communication and counselling skills Ability to interpret clinical data and apply nutritional science Good organisational and time-management skills

Desirable

Experience in a clinical or mental health setting Knowledge of specialist diets (e.g. enteral feeding, weight management) Understanding of psychological aspects of eating behaviours
