Clinical; The post-holder will contribute to the provision of tertiary level paediatric urology care and in the acute general and neonatal surgery as part of the acute rota (1:7.5). The post-holder will work closely with other members of the paediatric surgery and urology teams, including clinical nurse specialists, in the delivery of high-level care for children and families from the region and beyond. The post holder will also have clinical support from clinical team members (trainees, trust doctors and foundation doctors) in delivering this care. The post-holder will need to travel to different sites e.g. Horton General Hospital, Chipping Norton, Northampton General Hospital, and within our ODN for theatre sessions and clinics. These are existing clinics and lists, as well as others in development. Appropriate travel time will be permitted to reach these sites.Teaching/Research Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The post-holder's contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review.
The post-holders duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post-holder will be willing to work in any of the Trusts locations. Clinical Governance The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies. Personal and Professional Development The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.
Divisional Director: Miss Penny Lennox
The Division is headed by a Divisional Director, a practising clinician who is supported by a Divisional Nurse, Divisional Medical Director and General Manager. The Division is responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of services within their areas in line with Trust strategies, policies and procedures and contains five Clinical Directorates, each of which contain clinical service units covering specific areas of services. The five Directorates are led by Clinical Directors and supported by Operational Service Managers, Matrons and other relevant experts. The Directorates host services on three hospital sites; The John Radcliffe Hospital, The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and the Horton General Hospital.The Division, whilst mirroring the overall vision of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, aims to be a leader across the United Kingdom as a provider of a range of standard and specialised services. Qualifications
Essential
- Full UK GMC Registration with License to Practice
- FRCS (Paed.Surg.) or equivalent
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatric Surgery or proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview
Desirable: - Higher medical degree (DM, DPhil, PhD); - Specialist qualification in paediatric urology
Professional Training
Essential
- 2 years dedicated paediatric urological experience
- Research publication in paediatric surgery and/or urology
- Evidence of trauma experience or training (e.g. DSTS)
Desirable: - Two-year national subspecialty training in Paediatric Urology or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Paediatric Surgery
- Advanced paediatric laparoscopic surgical skills
- Competence in acute general paediatric surgery
Desirable: - Experience of transitional care implementation in adolescent urology/adult urology interface
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Excellent leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a multi-professional team.
- Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management.
- Able to change and adapt, respond to changing circumstances and to cope effectively with setbacks or pressure
- Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.
Desirable
- Evidence of contribution to service development
- Management training or qualification.
