- CLINICALThe new appointee will automatically be a member of the Medical Staff Committee.The post-holder will:o Participate in the departmental rota for routine surgical pathology reporting, and dissection.
- Attend MDTs according to rostering and clinical need.
- Participate in the MDT cancer care structure and assume leadership for cell pathology in at least one MDT according to the interests of the postholder and the needs of the department in consultation with existing consultant colleagues.
- Refer specialist cases to appropriate referral centres for reporting.
GENERALThe post-holder will: Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines Develop and maintain good working practices, including adhering to departmental SOPs and guidelines issued by professional bodies such as the Royal College of Pathologists Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues and other members of the team including laboratory, secretarial and mortuary staff. Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary careAll Consultants have a continuing and individual responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients in their charge. Within Histopathology, Consultants are expected to share in the duties associated with providing an efficient and effective service, making use of all available skill mix including biomedical scientist dissection.

Interview
Essential
- Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for reporting surgical pathology
- Evidence of clinical audit

- Training in appraisal techniques
- Service development experience or knowledge
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for performing post mortem examinations
