The specialist areas in the department include: Renal Pathology, Dermatopathology, Uropathology, Respiratory Pathology, head and neck pathology, Gynaecological pathology, Non -Gynae Cytology. It is anticipated that the post holder will support and have or be prepared to develop an interest in Dermatopathology, Gynaecology and Gastro Enterology and Uropathology and provide support for Respiratory pathology. Support for Non-gynae Cytopathology would also be welcome but other areas of interest will be considered. It is also expected that the post holder will participate in the service and training requirements of the Cervical Screening Programme for the reporting of Histology specimens. The partial subspecialist model is better suited to those with wide experience in histopathology. Following restructuring the main laboratory and processing facilities are at Epsom General Hospital. A satellite lab supporting the renal service, frozen sections, autopsy service, and cytopathology service is located at St Helier. The Skin Immuno fluorescence service is also provided at the St. Helier site.
The main duties and responsibilities of the post holder are:
1. To at all times, comply withthe GMCs guidance on Good Medical Practice as amended or substituted from time to time.
2 To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3 To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.
4 To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5 On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trusts corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
6 To participate in the Trusts Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
7 To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and out patients under your care.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practice) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview). FRCPath or equivalent
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
Desirable
- MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research

- Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
- Ability to teach clinical skills
Desirable
- Familiarity within issues of service organisation and development
- Personal time management skills
- Has attended a recognised management training event or will have such training on completion of CCT/equivalent
- Knowledge of NHS system
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates/post graduates
- Experience of supervising junior doctors
- Experience of teaching Lay groups and other staff groups
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research
