A unique opportunity awaits to join the South Derbyshire and South Dales Children's service as a Band 5 Community Public Health Nurse within the 5-19 ...

Our Public Health Nurses work with children and their families both in schools and in the home environment to improve health and social outcomes and make a real difference in a true multi-agency environment. Applicants must be confident in working autonomously as well as part of a team, in a variety of environments such as education, home, health and community settings.

The post is covering South Derbyshire and South Derbyshire Dales, with the office base being situated in Swadlincote. Due to the nature of the role, the applicant must be able to travel independently across the locality to deliver service and across County for training as reqquired.

You will be an integral member of the 5-19 team, supporting the Band 6 SCPHN alongside other Community Public Health Staff Nurses in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • First level registered General Nurse/ Children's Nurse.
  • NMC Registration
  • Recent evidence of CPD

Desirable

  • Previous Community Experience
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • The ability to communicate and effectively at a variety of levels.
  • Ability to work on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to influence and motivate others
  • Planning and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to public health and service user groups.
  • Experience of working with children/young people on health related issues.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding children procedures.
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Awareness of the principle of clinical governance/audit.
  • Post registration experience
  • Understanding and awareness of the public health high impact areas and agenda

Aptitude

Essential

  • To be motivated and have the ability to motivate others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills.
  • To be able to adopt a problem solving attitude.

  • Evidence of delivering public health initiatives

IT Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of IT programmes for example Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with electronic patient records, the associated record keeping policies and standards and the Caldecott principles.
  • Experience in interpreting data to inform practice.
  • Knowledge of using social media.
