Colorectal Advanced Nurse - Urgent Suspected Cancer Pathway

• To work alongside the team of colorectal surgeons in assessing and investigating patients referred on the urgent suspected cancer pathway
• To provide highly specialised nursing care for patients with a potential colorectal or anal cancer diagnosis
• To independently undertake nurse led services, either face to face or via telephone clinics to ensure patients are on the appropriate pathway supported by the lead consultant for colorectal cancer
• To provide psychological support to patients and their families
• To work unsupervised within the boundaries of your expertise and with autonomy in the clinical setting (including independently requesting patient investigations where appropriate)
• To assist in the development of the service, by consultation, treatment intervention, complex and highly skilled communication, aftercare, education, training team building and working
• To provide specialist education and training to other staff, patients and carers
• To provide a leading role in clinical audits and actively participate in relevant research studies.

Essential

• NMC registered Degree level qualification in Adult Nursing
• Teaching and mentorship qualification
• Evidence of continuing personal / professional development

Desirable

• Non-medical prescribing qualification or the ability to undertake
• Post graduate study in Colorectal cancer
• Management / Leadership qualification
• Masters level qualification or ability to work towards
• Clinical examination qualification

Essential

• Experience in the management of patients with colorectal and anal cancer
• Experience of multi-professional collaborative working
• Experience of giving psychosocial support to complex patients
