Cognitive Behavioural Therapist/Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Essential

• Professional qualification in Clinical / Counselling Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
• Registration as a Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist with the HCPCA qualification in health care at graduate level in nursing, social work or allied health profession PLUS professional registration (e.g HCPC, NMC)
• A post graduate diploma in cognitive behavioural therapy and accreditation (or working towards accreditation) with the British Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies

Desirable

• Post qualification training in a specialised area of psychological practice (e.g, EMDR, DBT)
• Training in recognised Perinatal & Parent Infant Mental Health courses

Essential

• Experience in offering appropriate assessment of clients, to use judgement in the planning of care, and to implement specific evidence-based therapies.
• Experience of applying cognitive behavioural therapy/other psychological approaches.
• Experience of using trauma focused interventions.
• Experience of using psychometric measures.
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment.
• Experience of conducting high quality risk assessments and implementing risk management plans.
• Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

• Experience of providing supervision to other professionals.
• Experience of teaching and training to other professionals.

Essential

• Be able to provide effective liaison with colleagues in the wider maternity system, as well as other statutory / non statutory services relevant to the client and their ongoing needs.
• Contribute when required, to team research and development activities.
• Evidence of CPD as recommended by a professional registration body.

Desirable

• Knowledge of policy and legislation in relation to service specialism and of relevant mental health legislation.

Essential

• Communicate directly with clients, partners and families and other healthcare professionals, complex and potentially emotive information
• Demonstrate skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• Demonstrate well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Ability to organise time effectively.
• Ability to use own initiative and to work under supervision where appropriate.
• Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise effectively with other professionals.

Desirable

• Skills in organising and facilitating groups for the provision of psychological interventions.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professionals and non-professional groups.
