You will have primary responsibility for leading data management activities for allocated trials from set-up through to database lock, ensuring databases and documentation are delivered on time and in line with regulatory guidance and SOPs.
The data specialist will produce or oversee database and CRF Design and amendment specifications, testing and ensuring databases are fit for purpose.
The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of coordinators, programmers, statisticians and other data managers to deliver all aspects of the data management project from set-up through to database lock and close in line with agreed timelines.
The data specialist will actively participate in and lead allocated quality and improvement initiatives related to data management including writing, reviewing and updating SOPs, guidance, training materials and other documentation.
The role will involve training of new data managers and providing guidance to members of staff of all levels who not familiar with data management principles. The role will involve line management of less experienced data managers.
We would particularly welcome candidates with experience of REDCap and/or MACRO.
Please note that this role cannot be performed fully remotely. The successful post holder will be expected to attend our offices in Cambridge at least 1-2 days per week or dependent on the needs of the projects.

Experience
Essential
- Experience in handling research data (entry into databases, generation of queries, cleaning of data, generation of data reports, tracking of data collection forms)
- Experience of producing specifications for the design of data capture tools (eCRFs)
- Experience of user acceptance testing of database systems for collection of research data
- Experience of writing data-related documentation, guidelines or SOPs
Desirable
- Experience in working in the academic/university and/or NHS environment
- Experience of oncology trials
- Experience in using remote electronic data capture/electronic CRFs
- Experience in using MACRO and/or REDCap
- Experience of project managing the data aspects of clinical trials
- Experience of using project management tools such as MSProject
- Line management (direct or matrix)
Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to degree level or equivalent or equivalent, or extensive data handling/management experience
- GCP trained
Desirable
- Science, computer science, HCP or data management qualification
Knowledge
Essential
- Excellent working knowledge of databases and data cleaning
- Knowledge of good CRF and database design and understanding of documentation requirements
- Understanding and knowledge of improving and maintaining data quality
- Understanding of regulatory requirements related to data integrity, confidentiality and good clinical practice
- Knowledge of clinical trial lifecycle
Desirable
- Awareness of current developments in clinical trials data management
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy.
- Understanding of the principles of the Human Tissue Act
