The Band 5 Clinical Trials Assistant post supports the multidisciplinary MARC research team to run all aspects of the different clinical research trials for people with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and different types of dementia.The successful candidate will work on all study protocols including Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPS) that may have regular study visits elsewhere.
Work and adhere to the principles laid down in the International Conference on Harmonisation, Good Clinical Practice Guideline (ICH/GCP) as well as Trust policies.
To help ensure all patients consented to clinical trials at MARC are recorded on their individual Trust electronic medical health record.
To work on all elements of the research trials undertaken at MARC including preparation and set up of clinics; running of clinics; conducting cognitive testing and carer interviews; processing blood, CSF and urine samples as per protocol and following up any issues arising from clinic visits.
To provide support to the Study coordinators about logistical preparation for clinics and communication with colleagues within different departments, patients and carers to ensure smooth running of clinics before, during and after study visits.
With appropriate training, to process clinical samples for studies, organising sample collection and dispatch to relevant department or trial center as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential: - Registered Nurse or Psychology Graduate; - Evidence of CPD
Desirable: - Evidence of relevant post graduate qualification i.e MSc, PhD; - Clinical Research Practitioner (CRP) qualification or evidence of working to this level
Experience
Essential
- Relevant and recent dementia healthcare knowledge and experience
- Experience of working in a busy, demanding environment
- Experience of planning and managing a range of complex activities.
- Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) to produce reports and correspondence which are timely, professional and accurate
- Previous experience of working with people with Alzheimer's in either a clinical or research capacity
- Experience of working in a patient/participant facing role with clinical duties
Desirable
- Clinical experience/qualification in venepuncture
- Previous experience in working on Clinical Trials using Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMP'S)
- Experience in administering cognitive assessments e.g. MMSE, MoCA etc
- Experience of working with confidential and sensitive information
- Experience of clinical research, including ethical processes and health and safety
- Experience of working on interventional studies or complex/large scale observational studies
- Experience in specialist dementia care
- Experience of working within the principles of ICH Certificate in Good Clinical Practice.
- Experience with electronic case report forms (CRF)
- Experience of undertaking / supporting clinical research
- Experience of working in research within a healthcare service
- Experience of liaison with staff at all levels in healthcare
- Experience of working /outreach activities with under-served communities
- Experience of developing and delivering training/education to a range of audiences

- Willingness and ability to travel across the Trust localities to participate in research studies, study set up, attend meetings, training events, etc
- Excellent communication skills (patient contact will be involved in the post) so applicant must have a professional and caring manner.
- Clean driving licence and use of car
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of clinical research and/or clinical trials
- Understanding of Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance, and appropriate legislation, and neurological conditions.
- Understanding of the role & responsibilities of a Clinical Trials Assistant
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion and how they apply to staff and patients in a healthcare setting. Able to demonstrate personal commitment to challenging discrimination and promoting equalities, at an appropriate level for the post
- Understanding of which communities are under-served within the region
- Is able to work legally in the UK

- Ability to use database systems for registering/recruitment of patients onto research studies

- Knowledge of ethical and quality standards applicable to clinical trials, including EU Directive on ICH GCP requirements
