Post holders will support registered nursing staff and other health care professionals in the delivery of nursing care to patients at a level determin...

  • Assist in the provision of patient care in accordance with the care plan prescribed by registered nurses. Examples of duties include delivery of hygiene, nutrition and hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility, rehabilitation and psychological support.
  • Assist healthcare professional with treatment and carry out additional care roles under supervision and as determined by the levels of competence achieved.
  • changes to patient's condition or health status to registered nurses
  • Assist in care and support of visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality in relation to patients' records working within the principles of Caldicott guidelines

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.

A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

Qualifications

Essential

  • QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience
  • Maths and English qualification
  • Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment

Skills

Essential

  • Able to use and update IT systems with patient information.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and / or carers
  • Able to assess patient's health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care and referring/escalating to other staff as appropriate.

Experience

Essential: - Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing, and turning patients), equipment and stores; - Evidence of effective communication skills

Desirable: - Experience in a healthcare environment
