An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and detail-driven practitioner to join our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team as a Clinical Specialist Practitioner for Surgical Site Infection (SSI) Surveillance.
Working under the direction of the SSI Surveillance Practitioner and Matron for IPC, you will play a key role in monitoring, detecting, investigating and reporting surgical site infections and other healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) across the Trust. Using standardised UKHSA surveillance methodology, you will help identify infection trends, support outbreak investigations and drive infection prevention initiatives across surgical and perioperative services.
This role suits someone with a background in surgery, theatres or infection prevention and control who has strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to work autonomously across a busy acute Trust

Qualifications
Essential: - Degree or equivalent in nursing or allied health science; - Mentorship/teaching qualification; - Evidence of recent continued professional development
Desirable: - Infection prevention and Control Qualification
Experience and training
Essential
- Experience of managing a ward/department on a regular basis at minimum
- Working as part of Multi disciplinary team
- Understanding of NHS plan and recent initiatives
Desirable: - Back ground in surgery/theatres or infection prevention control; - Undertaking various audits and completing the action plan
Skills, abilities and knowledge
Essential
- Awareness and understanding of current health issues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to relate to patients and staff at all levels and across professions
- Computer literate (MS Office, MS Teams); able to manage, analyse and present data
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills; able to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and situations
- Knowledge of the Code of Professional Conduct
Desirable: - Knowledge of surgical pathways and theatre protocols; - Ability to read and appraise academic papers and evidence-based guidance
Special circumstances
Essential: - Able and willing to travel to other Trust sites as required; - May be required to work occasional weekends; - Adapts to different working conditions
