Are you passionate about developing the next generation of doctors and healthcare professionals? Join our Clinical Skills Education Team in this estab...
As a Clinical Skills Tutor, you will plan, deliver and evaluate clinical skills education for undergraduate medical students, working with the Clinical Education Team and University of Manchester to develop students' knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours for safe clinical practice.
The role includes clinical skills teaching, simulation and assessment, including core procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation and urinary catheterisation. You will maintain clinical competence to ensure teaching is current, evidence-based and high quality.
We seek an enthusiastic, approachable healthcare professional with excellent communication skills and a passion for developing others. You will be a positive role model, promote professionalism and compassionate care, and create an inclusive learning environment adapted to different levels of experience and confidence.
As part of a small, supportive team, you will work flexibly with colleagues throughout the academic year. Strong teamwork, organisation and adaptability are essential, including flexibility to support examinations and assessments, which may require changes to planned schedules.
Formal teaching experience is desirable but not essential; teaching, coaching or mentoring gained through clinical practice is valued. We will support your professional development and growth as an educator.
The Clinical Skills Tutor will support the delivery of a high-quality undergraduate medical education programme, ensuring medical students receive effective clinical skills teaching, assessment and educational support throughout their placements within the Trust.
The post holder will plan, organise and deliver clinical skills teaching sessions aligned to the undergraduate medical curriculum, using a range of educational methodologies including practical skills teaching, simulation, small-group facilitation and blended learning approaches. They will support students in developing the knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required for safe clinical practice.
The post holder will teach and assess a broad range of clinical skills including, but not limited to, venepuncture, peripheral intravenous cannulation, urinary catheterisation, aseptic technique, basic life support and other clinical procedures required within the undergraduate curriculum. They will maintain their own competence and ensure teaching reflects current evidence, professional standards and best practice.
They will contribute to the development, preparation and evaluation of teaching materials and learning resources, ensuring educational activities remain engaging, effective and responsive to curriculum requirements. The post holder will be expected to participate in quality assurance processes and support the continuous improvement of educational provision.
The role includes supporting the organisation and delivery of undergraduate assessments and examinations, including Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), formative assessments and other assessment activities. This may require flexibility in working arrangements during peak examination periods to support the successful delivery of these events.
The post holder will provide educational guidance and support to undergraduate medical students, helping to create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment. They will act as a professional role model, promoting high standards of professionalism, patient-centred care and clinical practice.
The post holder will work closely with Clinical Education colleagues, medical school representatives, clinicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the effective delivery of undergraduate medical education. They will contribute to the planning and coordination of educational activities, student placements and curriculum delivery across the Trust.
As a member of a small and supportive team, the post holder will contribute flexibly to the wider work of the Clinical Education Department, supporting colleagues and sharing responsibilities as required to ensure service continuity and the successful delivery of educational programmes.
