o To work with an independent medical prescriber, as a supplementary non-medical prescriber, within the designated area of practice.

o As a supplementary non-medical prescriber prepare clinical management plans and prescribe only in accordance with these and within their scope of practice/competency taking full responsibility and accountability for their prescribing decisions.

o As an Independent non-medical prescriber, prescribe for clients with an existing diagnosis taking full responsibility and accountability for clinical assessment and management of patients and their prescribing decisions. They may prescribe medications as considered safe and appropriate under national and local guidance and within their competency.

o Liaise with other healthcare providers as appropriate in accordance with service policies, ensuring patients are referred to other healthcare professionals as necessary to access other aspects of their healthcare

o Ensure that prescriptions are written legibly and legally and in accordance with the trust Medicines Management Policy.

o Ensure that they comply with prescription security and maintain a personal record of prescription numbers

o Work with service users in order to support concordance with prescribed treatments, providing education on medication.

o Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on regimens, side-effects and interactions.

To provide specialist assessments of children and young people referred to the team with the use of evidence-based assessment tools and plan clinical care accordingly. Assessments may be carried out individually or jointly with other colleagues from the team.

To be responsible for implementing a range of interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups.

To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual.

To always practice wherever possible using shared decision making around prescribing medication, ensuring requirements of capacity and consent are met, with clear clinical documentation, following local and national policies, procedures and legislation.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose needs are managed by high quality service user care and treatment plans.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Qualification/Education

Essential

  • Have a certificate to demonstrate he/she has successfully completed a non-medical prescribing course at post graduate level.
  • The course must be at least 6 months duration and have been validated by the RPSGB (Pharmacists) or/and the NMC (Nurses).
  • Have a certificate to demonstrate he/she has successfully completed the physical health course for mental health staff
  • Have a certificate to demonstrate he/she has successfully completed the medication management course

Desirable: - Mentorship / teaching qualification; - Qualification in non-medication therapeutic intervention

Skills/Abilities

Essential: - Well-developed analytical and judgement skills.; - Biopsychosocial assessment and intervention skills; - Negotiation and conflict management skills

Desirable: - Person management experience; - Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience prescribing children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Knowledge of national policy and legislation related to children and adolescents' mental health, including Gillick competency and parental responsibility
  • In-depth understanding of the risks associated with NMP and the management of side effects and medication errors.
  • Detailed working knowledge of medication management and concordance issues
  • Assessment and management of patients with complex needs

Desirable

  • A minimum of 12 months post registration experience as a NMP
  • Experience of providing clinical care for children and adolescents with Learning Disabilities
  • A minimum of one year experience providing clinical care in a CAMHS setting

Personal Qualities/ other requirements

Essential

  • Ability to work independently and recognise when needing support from others
  • Physical capability to travel between sites and in the community for service provision
