We are a person centred, highly motivated and innovative team working with children and young people from 4-18 years old who have a learning disability and/or autism with behaviours of concern, to prevent family or placement breakdown.

All our work is underpinned by the positive behaviour support framework and an understanding that all behaviours are a form of communication.

In this role, you will be provided with the opportunity to build your knowledge, experience and skills in supporting children and young people who have autism, learning disabilities and behaviours of concern. You will also work with the families of these children and young people.

As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will be assessing children's behavioural functions and identifying appropriate strategies/environmental changes that can be implemented to reduce behaviours of concern. This will involve identifying on-going or long-term support needs.

In this role you will be visiting family homes and school settings (when appropriate) to make observations and offer hands-on support. You will also be on call to respond to any 'crisis' situations in the community across the county. We work from 2pm to 10pm Monday – Friday and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Experience working with children or adults with LD and ASC / behaviours of concern.
  • Educated to GCSE standard OR have Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English.
  • Experience/knowledge of SEND process and pathway.
  • Willingness and ability to work out of hours.

We will provide coaching in positive behaviour support and identify any further training needs to meet the requirements of the role.

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and you will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area.

Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

To apply, we request that you submit a CV and personal statement.

Before submitting your application, we recommend you read the job description & Our Life at Surrey handbook to get an insight into working at Surrey.
