You will provide leadership for Housekeeping and Patient Portering Services at Heartlands, ensuring services are safe, effective, compliant and aligned with organisational priorities. You will be responsible for operational performance, service quality, workforce management, risk management and financial oversight.
Working with the Head of Facilities, Associate Director of Facilities, clinical teams and operational colleagues, you will contribute to business planning, service development and the implementation of improvement initiatives. You will oversee performance against local & national standards, manage budgets, monitor risks & incidents and ensure robust operational policies and business continuity arrangements are maintained.
A key part of the role is supporting & developing people. You will provide visible leadership to managers and frontline teams, lead recruitment & workforce planning activity, support staff engagement & quality improvement programmes and ensure teams have access to training and development.
We are seeking a leader who can analyse complex information, influence change, manage competing priorities and work effectively with a range of stakeholders. You should be educated to degree level, hold membership of a recognised facilities management institute and have significant experience of managing large, complex FM services, organisational change, budgets and people. A commitment to continuous improvement, patient-focused services & collaborative leadership is essential.

Qualifications
Essential
- *Degree-level qualification and be a member of a recognised institute e.g. BIFM; IFMA
- *Specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate level courses, training or experience to Masters level or equivalent relevant experience.
Desirable
- *Project management qualification.

- *Substantial demonstrable experience in high-level operational post managing the delivery of FM services
- *Significant NHS Experience
- *Experience of managing a large and complex service
- *Experience of leadership and people management
- *Experience of managing service / organisational change
- *Significant experience to operate at operational and strategic levels
- *Knowledge of Government Policy and how this affects / influences Trust Objectives.
- *Demonstrates diplomacy and persistence in reaching goals.
- *Able to cope with difficult and demanding situations.
- *Be willing to learn new skills and develop knowledge; committed to own and others continuing personal and professional development.
- *Ability to work effectively as a team player and the ability to work under own initiative.
Additional Criteria

- *Ability to analyse data and understand how this may be used to undertake capacity / demand planning.
- *Understanding of budget management and the ability to contribute to cost savings.
- *Experience of undertaking successful project management.
- *Awareness and commitment to the broad strategic direction of the NHS -- in particular how Housekeeping and Portering Services contribute to the smooth flow of patients.
- *Experience of meeting objectives and deadlines.
- *Excellent written, oral and presentation skills, including the preparation of reports.
- *Numerate and computer literate, including the ability to use information systems for analysis and planning.
- *Good interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving and communication skills to enable change in practice.
- *Strong influencing skills to enable the delivery of changes.
- *Ability to rapidly understand the functioning of a department and to apply this knowledge to effectively manage it.
- *Effective HR management skills e.g. sickness absence, conduct, performance, recruitment and selection, appraisal (etc.) or willingness to undertake appropriate training
- *Ability to work independently using own initiative; must be able to plan and prioritise own workload and take responsibility for quality assuring results.
- *Reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
- *Well organised, flexible, approachable, resilient.
- *Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs.
- *Ability to travel across all sites as required by the role.
- *Take part in on call duties within Facilities.
