The post holder will provide, evidence-based psychological therapy to people who experience gambling harms in line with the NICE guidelines. The service covers the South West of England and the majority of our work is completed online (although face to face appointments may be required depending on service needs).

Job Summary (to be read alongside the key local information):

  • Assess and treat people experiencing gambling harms and co-occurring needs, and maintain associated records on the electronic patient record system.
  • Provide high-intensity, evidence-based psychological interventions; these will include at least Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing for people with a broad range of needs.
  • Provide consultation, liaison, and, where appropriate, clinical supervision to other professionals, including less experienced therapists, Assistant Psychologists, and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
  • Undertake clinical audit and service evaluation activities to support the development of services relevant to client needs.
  • Develop best-practice knowledge in working with people who gamble and promote expertise in this area, including supporting research projects where appropriate, with the guidance of the Clinical Lead.

Qualifications

Essential: - Doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, or postgraduate qualification in CBT; - HCPC registration or BABCP accreditation

Desirable: - Training in Motivational Interviewing; - Training in working with addictions

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working as a psychological therapist in NHS services
  • Experience of providing evidence-based assessments, formulation and therapeutic interventions in addiction or mental health services (individual and group)
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively
  • Experience of safety assessment, safety planning and safeguarding

Desirable

  • Experience working with people with gambling harms or other addictions
  • Research and quality improvement experience
  • Experience in teaching and training.
  • Experience of working remotely and delivering therapy online
