Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist - (Fixed Term)

• Take delegated responsibility from the Band 7 therapist for managing patients with a range of conditions, providing specialist therapy assessments and developing appropriate treatment plans.
• Undertake comprehensive assessments for patients with diverse or complex presentations and multipathologies, using advanced clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques to formulate accurate diagnoses of conditions and associated problems.
• Formulate and recommend Occupational Therapy treatment programmes based on sound knowledge of evidencebased practice, clinical assessment, and professional reasoning.
• Ensure the safe and competent use of all equipment, patient appliances, and aids, and ensure that junior staff and assistants achieve competency before using them with patients.
• Provide both spontaneous and planned specialist advice to medical, nursing, and other multidisciplinary colleagues regarding patients' conditions, treatment needs, and fitness for discharge.
• Apply specialist knowledge across a range of routine and nonroutine Occupational Therapy practices, requiring expertise within the speciality field.
• Manage clinical risk within your own caseload at all times, ensuring safe and effective care.
• Assess and recommend appropriate levels of support for patients and their families, working closely with external agencies where required.
• Demonstrate resilience and emotional intelligence when working with unwell patients, as well as anxious relatives and carers.

Essential

• * Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• * Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• * Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD),including recent postgraduate training relevant to the clinical speciality.

Desirable

• * Member of specialist interest group.
• * Attendance at Clinical Educators course.

Essential

• * Demonstration of clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within the speciality.
• * A specialist knowledge across a range of Occupational Therapy treatments,routine and non-routine requiring expertise within the field of occupational therapy.
• * Experience of working with student occupational therapists and therapy support workers.
• * An ability to analyse clinical and non clinical complex facts and situations, which require the interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
• * An ability to plan, organise, formulate and adjust complex plans.
• * An ability to supervise and delegate work to therapy colleagues, support workers and students.
• * Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational therapy.

Desirable

• * Experience of supporting students and more junior therapy staff.
• * An understanding of discharge routes in the community
