We are currently recruiting for a Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist to work within oncology services. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced physiotherapist looking to utilise and develop their clinical expertise while delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to people living with cancer.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in oncology, cancer rehabilitation and/or a related clinical speciality, with the ability to assess and manage patients with complex rehabilitation needs. They will be confident working autonomously within their scope of practice and committed to effective multidisciplinary working.

This role offers the opportunity to support patients throughout their cancer journey, helping them maintain or improve physical function, manage treatment-related symptoms and maximise independence and quality of life.

  • Undertaking specialist physiotherapy assessments for patients with cancer and cancer-related complications.
  • Developing and implementing individualised rehabilitation programmes based on patients' clinical needs, functional ability and treatment goals.
  • Assessing and managing patients experiencing reduced mobility, deconditioning, cancer-related fatigue, weakness, balance difficulties and functional decline.
  • Supporting patients before, during and after cancer treatment, where appropriate.
  • Providing evidence-based exercise and rehabilitation interventions to improve strength, endurance, mobility and overall physical function.
  • Educating patients, families and carers on rehabilitation, symptom management, safe exercise and self-management strategies.
  • Managing a clinical caseload, prioritising patients according to clinical need and responding appropriately to changes in their condition.
  • Working collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to support coordinated patient care and discharge planning.
  • Recognising clinical deterioration, identifying red flags and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation in line with professional standards and local policies.
  • Contributing to clinical governance, service development, audit and continuing professional development.
  • Providing clinical guidance and support to junior colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team, as appropriate.

  • Degree or equivalent recognised qualification in Physiotherapy.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Relevant post-registration clinical experience at a level appropriate to a Band 6 position.
  • Experience in oncology, cancer rehabilitation or a relevant clinical speciality, depending on the service requirements.
  • Strong clinical assessment, reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to assess and manage patients with complex rehabilitation needs.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation principles, exercise prescription and the management of functional decline.
  • Ability to work independently within professional scope of practice while recognising when advice or escalation is required.
  • Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety and continuing professional development

  • Previous experience working within oncology, cancer rehabilitation or an acute hospital setting.
  • Experience supporting patients experiencing cancer-related fatigue, deconditioning and treatment-related functional limitations.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation considerations for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Relevant postgraduate training or professional development in oncology, rehabilitation or a related speciality.
  • Experience contributing to clinical audit, service development or quality improvement.
  • Experience supervising or supporting junior physiotherapy staff.

Relevant oncology experience is desirable, with consideration given to candidates who can demonstrate transferable clinical skills and experience managing complex rehabilitation needs, subject to the requirements of the service.

This opportunity offers the chance to utilise and develop your specialist physiotherapy skills within oncology services, supporting patients with complex rehabilitation needs and helping them achieve meaningful improvements in function, independence and quality of life.
