As an Emergency Department Nurse, you will provide direct emergency nursing care, assess patients' needs, escalate concerns appropriately, and plan care to support early treatment and decision-making. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will help ensure timely, effective and compassionate care while developing extended clinical skills through appropriate training.

We are passionate about education and career development, with strong links to Greenwich, Brighton and Canterbury Universities, supporting both degree and master's level study. Staff have access to a wide range of professional development opportunities, including Advanced Physical Assessment, Paediatric Assessment, Mentorship programmes, and Resuscitation Council courses such as ATLS, EPLS, PILS, ILS and ALS.

During induction, you will attend a dedicated Emergency Department Skills Week led by our ED Matrons, covering essential topics including intraosseous access, care of the sick child, ILS and PILS. Regular skills sessions continue throughout the year, tailored to staff learning needs. Our experienced Practice Development Nurses provide ongoing support across triage, majors, minors and resuscitation areas, helping you build confidence and expertise in a rewarding emergency care environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse and hold active registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Diploma/Degree level qualification relevant to role
  • Professional qualification and knowledge of patient assessment, planning, developing and implementing programmes of care
  • Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc

Desirable

  • Post Graduate qualification at Degree level relevant to role to demonstrate clinical skills

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in nursing care, knowledge and expertise acquired through training
  • Demonstrate experience of providing nursing care in the healthcare setting

Desirable

  • NHS experience or relevant health care organisation

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential

  • Professional clinical knowledge skills and skills that demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, develop and implement programmes of care
  • Ability to apply professional judgement and problem solve
  • Able to support learners and clinical supervision of junior staff.
  • Able to support mentors in decisions related to students/learners and make judgements regarding competence and fitness to practice.

Essential

  • Able to manage the physical and emotional demands of the role, including moving and handling of patients, able to concentrate to provide clinical care, calculation of drug dosages and communication of distressing or unwelcome information
  • Flexibility in working hours and patterns
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (for domiciliary community role) and ability to travel between sites
