You will provide specialist nursing support to patients with gastrointestinal cancer, acting as a developing key worker and patient advocate. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will undertake holistic needs assessments, coordinate care across organisational boundaries, provide specialist advice and information, and support patients to make informed decisions about their treatment and care. You will participate in MDT meetings, contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives, and complete a structured CNS development programme to support progression towards independent caseload management. Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Degree in Nursing
  • Post registration qualification in oncology / related specialty

Desirable

  • Master's level learning or oprepared to work towards
  • Advanced Communication
  • Skills training
  • Psychological assessment oskills Level 2 training
  • Recognised teaching oqualification or prepared to owork towards.
  • SACT qualification / UKONS SACT Passport

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates a breadth of ogeneral nursing experience
  • Relevant post-registration oexperience in cancer/related specialty.
  • Experience as preceptor / mentor to junior nurses / students
  • Experience of multiprofessional and cross organisational working
  • Experience of advanced holistic patient assessment &/or triage.
  • Experience of identifying and managing the shortand long-term effects of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive issues, conflict, and difficult situations

Skills

Essential

  • Effective communication skills to deliver complex and life altering information.
  • Ability to overcome or manage any barriers to communication
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Demonstrates an ability to undertake a holistic needs oassessment of patients
