The Apprentice will be undertaking a training programme within the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Training will be delivered through education sessions and time spent completing administration duties under supervision to complete the required qualification. The Apprentice will commit to undertake the training and educations required for the role, and successfully complete all components of the training programme within the contract period. This will include completion of Diploma Level 2 Administration Assistant.

Working under supervision; The Apprentice will carry out a variety of Administration & Clerical work in a Clinical or Non-Clinical area, with the possibility of some direct (supervised) or indirect patient contact, depending on allocated area of work. Dealing with telephone calls, e-mails and face to face contact with Trust Staff and members of the public, ensuring enquiries are dealt with in an efficient, polite and courteous manner.

  • Receive patients, visitors and other NHS staff into the department, directing to the appropriate waiting areas and assisting with any enquiries or concerns as appropriate.
  • Answer telephone calls and deal with or appropriately field any queries or enquiries.
  • Schedule patient appointments and handling cancellations.
  • Registering patient referral data onto an electronic patient management system, being both timely and accurate.
  • Following up on any missing data from the referral patient data set.
  • Attend and participate in Admin team meetings.
  • Provide admin cover for other sections as required.
  • Participate in the Individual Performance Review.
  • Make patient appointments liaising with patients, clinicians healthcare professionals and GP surgeries.
  • Sorting and distribution of post.
  • Such other duties at a comparable level of responsibility, as may normally be agreed with the job holder.

Whilst the post does not guarantee permanent employment at the end of it, successful completion of the Apprenticeship will provide the post holder with the skills and experience required to apply for future administrative positions within the NHS.

New to the NHS: If you are joining the NHS for the first time, you will be paid at the Apprentice Rate, which is currently £8.00 per hour for the first year of your apprenticeship. After the first year, you will be paid the age-related National Minimum Wage for the remainder of your fixed-term contract.

Existing NHS Employees: If you already have NHS experience, your pay will be determined in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. This means you will receive a percentage of the relevant pay band for the role, reflective of your current qualifications and experience.
