Job description

Join a Brand-New Care Team in York Support Someone to Live Life Their Way

At Active Care in the Home, part of the UKs leading complex care provider, were creating a new support team in York and looking for caring, dependable people who are passionate about making a real difference.

This role is about much more than providing care its about building trust, promoting independence, and supporting someone to live the life they choose, in the comfort of their own home and community.

We believe the best care is always person-centred, led by the individuals goals, choices, and routines. If youre someone who brings warmth, positivity, and compassion to the people you support, wed love to hear from you.

In this role, youll support one individual with complex needs as part of a consistent care team, with regular weekly shifts and rotas planned in advance. While the role is offered on a flexible zero-hours contract, the work is ongoing and typically provides a stable working pattern with the same client.

We are looking for a compassionate and positive Day Support Worker to join a new care team supporting a gentleman living at home with his partner, two teenage children, and the family cat.

The client is living with partial blindness, an acquired brain injury (ABI), long-term and short-term memory loss, cognitive impairment, and the effects of previous strokes. He is mobile and requires lean support with day-to-day living. This is a companionship-based role focused on providing person-centred support that promotes independence, dignity, confidence, and overall wellbeing, including directional support with personal care.

We are looking for someone who is warm, bubbly, and chatty, with a good sense of humour and a genuine passion for supporting others. The ideal person will build a meaningful connection with the client, providing companionship alongside practical support such as assisting with daily routines, preparing simple meals, accompanying him in the community, and encouraging independence in a safe and supportive environment.

A driver would be beneficial, but is not essential, as the client is happy to use public transport such as buses and trains with support. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in someones daily life while becoming part of a welcoming family environment.

Youll be working as part of a consistent support team providing 24/7 care, helping to create stability, familiarity, and meaningful daily experiences.

  • Delivering compassionate, person-led support that helps the client maintain independence and quality of life
  • Providing companionship and encouragement throughout daily routines and activities
  • Supporting with directional personal care, mobility, medication, and day-to-day living tasks
  • Accompanying the client to appointments, social activities, and community outings using public transport where needed

  • Friendly and approachable, with the ability to build strong, positive relationships
  • Confident supporting someone both at home and out in the community
  • Ideally a holder of a full UK driving licence (to drive the clients vehicle)

  • Flexible zero-hours contract available
