This position is working somewhere 22.5 - 37.5 hours per week, but these hours will include some 8am starts and some 6pm finishes to enable access for our working patients.
The role will include but is not limited to:
Long term condition specialist reviews
Cervical Cytology (smears)
Baby Immunisations
COVID/Flu Vaccinations
Travel Vaccinations and travel advice
Specialist Dressings
Assisting with the training/supervision of students and Trainee HCAs
You could be involved in most aspects of patient care including:
- obtaining blood samples
- electrocardiograms(ECGs)
- minor and complex wound management including leg ulcers
- travel health advice and vaccinations
- child immunisations and advice
- family planning & womens health including cervical smears
- mens health screening
- sexual health services
- smoking cessation
- screening and helping patients to manage long term conditions
- COVID and Flu vaccinations, Shingles, Pertussis and Pneumonia vaccines
General practice nurses may also have direct supervision of healthcare assistants at the practice.
You must be a qualified and registered adult, child, mental health or learning disability nurse to work in general practice. Youll also either need to undertake further training and education or be willing to after being appointed.
Youll need to be highly organised, flexible and able to prioritise effectively will be vital.You'll also be highly observant, able to assess patients and take responsibility for determining the best course of action.As with all nursing roles, communication skills,problem solving and good judgement are crucial.
The Surgery is keen to support the development and training of new staff and new projects and to offer a range of services to our population.
Qualifications
Essential
- You must be a qualified and registered adult, child, mental health or learning disability nurse to work in general practice.
- You'll also either need to undertake further training and education or be willing to after being appointed.
- As a band 6 Nurse, you will be required to have undertaken further specialist training in Diabetes Management, Asthma, COPD, Cardiovascular or be working towards achieving all of these advanced qualifications
Experience
Essential
- Several Years experience of working in a GP practice as a Practice Nurse
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
Other
Essential
- Ability to provide quality care
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
Desirable
- Basic IT skills
- Awareness of blood-borne viruses
