Pediatric Liaison Nurse

• To clinically undertake mental health/risk assessment, which can be used to inform the care planning of the CYP whilst they are at DGH.
• To maintain accurate contemporaneous records during assessments, complying with the trust documentation policy and that of your professional body
• To manage clinical situations that may be challenging and distressing for staff, ensuring the needs of the CYP and family/carers are paramount
• To ensure effective discharge planning so that individual CYP needs are met with an appropriate plan of action involving the multidisciplinary team as required
• Support and mentor junior colleagues
• To improve the experience for CYP presenting to the Emergency Department.
• To foster a close working relationship with clinicians and Allied Health Care Professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to care in line with clinical governance
• To critically analyse risk assessments to prioritise care and management of CYP.
• To provide consultation to other professionals within CYPS.

• To effectively manage the pathway from admission until discharge for CYP
• To assist in the decision-making regarding skill mix and presenting acuity and the need for 1:1 staffing
• To work alongside and support staff when a CYP presents in crisis or displaying violent or aggressive outbursts. Able to use techniques to diffuse behaviour
• Facilitate and support nurses in working collaboratively with all other members of the multi- disciplinary team
• Use of leadership styles appropriate to the changing circumstances/landscap

• Act as a role model to junior nurses and students rotating to the area
• Provide information, referral and/or appropriate sign-posting for CYP and families/carers.
• To undertake a recognised assessor training and subsequently participate in the formal assessment of learner nurses (nurses only).
• To plan and maximise opportunities to deliver work-based learning for the Emergency Department Team. This may extend to the Paediatric Ward.
• To stay in date with all Stat and Mand training courses

Essential

• Registered Mental Health Nurse with CYP experience or Mentorship preparation, relevant teaching qualification or relevant experience
• Demonstration that you have knowledge of your professional code of conduct and guidance issued by your professional body and that you adhere to this

Essential

• Experience of undertaking specialist assessment and treatment of CYP
• Experience of working with CYP either in community or T4 settings
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• A minimum of two years relevant MH experience in a CYP environment
• Knowledge of legislation with relation to CYP care and treatment

Desirable

• Experience of working with CYP with disordered eating
• Experience of working in the NHS
• Level 3 Safeguarding Children and Adults training
• Experience of family therapy or therapeutic intervention skills
• Prevention and management of violence and Aggression skills

Essential

• Effective and efficient keyboard skills in the recording of clinical information and in communicating with colleagues.
• Knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights and the competencies appropriate to your role to support their diverse needs and human rights
• Able to communicate effectively with the CYP, families and with other staff /agencies to ensure that the care, treatment and support is not compromised
• Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the CYP communication, physical & emotional needs; can identify changing needs and recognise and promote their independence
• Ability to undertake a clinical risk assessment and to work within safeguarding procedures

Desirable

• Skills in using IT, including office applications, clinical record systems and database/statistical applications e.g. Excel
• Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
