Nursing Support Worker

The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting the qualified nurses to meet the basic nursing needs of the patients in their care, as well as working from their own initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment.

You will need to have outstanding communication skills - you will be part of a team of fellow HCSW's, physician's assistants, qualified nurses and nurse practitioners, junior Doctors and consultants. You will be expected to communicate with these members of the team along with liaising with our ward clerks on admissions, transfers and discharges.

Your day to day routine will consist of but is not limited to: meeting patients hygiene and toileting needs, serving meals and assisting patients to eat and drink, taking and recording of vital observations, maintaining good levels of stock and PPE, assisting with wound dressings, disposing of hazardous waste safely and correctly and documenting in patients notes.

You will be expected to have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, due to being required to document about the patients skin and the taking and recording of vital signs.

There will be the opportunity to further develop with training and education, we enrol all of our HCSWs on to basic life support training.

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. This isnt fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to communicate in Welsh during routine clinical situations, such as welcoming patients, discussing straightforward aspects of their care and answering routine questions.
