In Advanced Clinical Practice you will be integral to the closed hand trauma pathway working within orthopaedic and plastic hand clinics. The post-holder will be expected to work with a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, exercising sound judgement to meet the demands of the role with integrity. You will bring leadership and expertise to ensure patients receive consistently excellent care. You will work closely with the MDT and fellow Advanced Clinical Practitioners to drive service innovation.Please read the attached job description and person specification

We are a very busy service supporting our plastic and orthopaedic hand surgery colleagues with elective and trauma activity as well as managing patients referred from rheumatology and the community. We are a team of thirty therapists supported by three assistants working across the Guys and St Thomas' hospital sites so excellent communication skills are essential.We strive to provide an excellent service that we would be happy to recommend to our friends and family and put patient care at the heart of everything that we do.

Hand Therapy is part of the Cancer and Surgery clinical group with a supportive and progressive management structure. Departmental objectives are founded upon the core principles of the clinical governance framework and Trust Core Values. Research activity, robust evidence-based practice and national guidelines drive forward our vision and direct service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registration

Desirable

  • Accredited Hand therapist

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters level or equivalent training in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience, research or publication in specialist area

Desirable

  • Recognised ACP therapist with either accredited ACP masters degree or through e-portfolio route

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical experience commensurate with the role in Hand Therapy with a minimum of several years at an advanced level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and post registration education and training
  • Experience of research and audit
  • Proven leadership skills in managing and developing teams
  • Advanced performance in a range of clinical skills in physical disability and Hand Therapy

Desirable

  • Previous band 8 experience in hand therapy
  • Published/presented research/QI/audit in field of hand therapy

Skills

Essential

  • Advanced specialist hand therapy skills including assessment, diagnosis, orthosis fabrication and selection (static, neoprene and dynamic), application and analysis of treatment modalities
  • Ability to work autonomously, acting Previous experience of formal presentations to multi professional groups Interview Interview Sandford July 2019 updated H.Bell Feb 2026 decisively on behalf of self and others, setting own priorities.
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary diagnostic and intervention services.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, organisational, managerial and team performance skills.

  • Demonstrates committed to improve the experience of service users, appreciating complexity of context, culture of diversity.
  • Proven experience in the training, teaching, supervision, development and mentoring of others.
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate and manage teams through change positively.
  • Computer literacy.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of formal presentations to multi professional groups
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office eg. Word, Powerpoint, excel, Outlook
